Wooden manufactures

Tarsie ligneeThe restoration of wooden artefacts is one of the jewels of the “Cenacolo”, which uses its own joinery with highly experienced craftsmen and restorers to operate on objects of large and small sizes, including such sacred vessels (altars, pulpits , choruses, choirs, as well as statues, sculptures and other objects), or architectural elements (coffered ceilings, portals and window frames) or furniture and ornaments of great value.
Before performing any operation are conducted investigations of the state of fact by the visual examination of a specialized restorer and possibly the help of chemical-physical analysis for the recognition of wood species and them conservation status, the research of patinas and the characterization of the ver putted layers.
The restoration is different depending on the manufacture in which it operates: usually, it performs a pre-consolidation or fixation of chips in cases of polychrome or gilding surface. It follows disinfestations by the termites and fungi, the cleaning by the termites and fungi, the cleaning through removal of various substances as oxidized varnishes, repainting, protective substances altered, the volumetric re-integrations integrations (with mimetic or recognizable technique) and the superficial of the fishing or paint layer. In cases of wooden sculptures, the gaps of the original coloration are re-integrated in the same manner like for the paintings (by gap, by effect, by selection of colour, by colour abstraction and others). Finally, it carries out the ultimate protection which, in the case of furniture without decorations, follows the traditional polishing techniques (wax and French polish) thus trying to keep alive an art now being dying out.
